The Cube Challenge: How We Found the Perfect Balance Between Quality and Fun

Creating the perfect cubes turned out to be much more challenging than we expected.

At first, we were drawn to the idea of wooden cubes. I personally love eco-friendly materials, and it felt like the natural choice. But reality hit us quickly — handmade wooden cubes were simply too expensive. Some suppliers quoted between eighty and one hundred dollars for a set of twenty-four cubes. For a test product, that just didn’t feel right. We knew such a price might scare potential buyers away.

So, we started looking for alternatives. We searched for manufacturers who could handle small batches and allow us to test different ideas without huge commitments. The first cubes we made were simple and had black and white edges. But after testing them with parents, the feedback was clear — they were too boring.

That’s when we decided to bring more life into them. Inspired by our colorful cards, we redesigned the cubes. Consonants were now marked with blue, while vowels had red borders. Suddenly, the cubes became much more cheerful and engaging.

We also experimented with different set sizes — twenty-four, twelve, and nine cubes. To make sure kids could actually build words with them, we even developed a special program. It helped us figure out how to break down simple words into letters that would work perfectly with our cubes. Sounds easy, but it took real effort and creativity.

Finally, after many trials and adjustments, we have our cubes in hand. They’re colorful, fun, and ready to help children learn through play. We’re thrilled with the result — and can’t wait to bring them to stores very soon.
